Self-hosted server rack — NAS plus the compute behind our scRNA-seq runs, protein-design jobs and a Minecraft server. Four nodes in HA K8s, run by us, exposed to nobody.
Overview
Four nodes that earn their watts.
Four servers cooperate in an HA Kubernetes cluster. The lead node — Solek-1 — is purpose-built around strong single-core performance to push through the kind of unoptimised scRNA-seq pipelines that hate being parallelised. It also hosts the Grafana dashboard wired into Smart Basement, plus Nextcloud and the NAS.
Idle, the whole stack draws around 110 W; under load it climbs past 200 W.
Why bother? Because every cloud account is rent. This costs us a one-time bill of materials, an evening a month, and teaches us networking, virtualisation and Linux while we eat.
